The American Century celebrity golf tournament returned to the beautiful shores of Lake Tahoe for its ’35’th year with one of it’s strongest fields in sports and entertainment in tournament history! A field of 91 participants competed in the 54 hole tournament. All told, there were 15 Hall of Famers, 15 active athletes (NBA, NHL, NFL and WWE), Grammy and Emmy Award winners. The Headliners included Travis Kelce, Tony Romo, Charles Barkley, Aaron Rodgers, Annika Sorenstam, Seth and Dell Curry, Ray Romano, Mardy Fish, Jake Owens to name a few and there were 15 first time participants; including Jason Kelce, Carson Daly, Austin Reaves. NBC Sports had comprehensive coverage Friday through Sunday. The tournament was seen on NBC Sports, Peacock and Golf Channel. There was an all time attendance record of 77,049 during the tournament week. One of the things on my personal bucket list, was to see Shania Twain live again before she retires or moves on as a judge, possibly, on a popular talent show…who knows? I received an invite to come and review the show. If I may boast a little, some of my best interviews as an entertainer myself, were with Tommy Shaw of Styx, David Pack of Ambrosia; (who I actually had the pleasure of singing on stage with at Spaghettini’s in Seal Beach, Ca.), and last but not least, smooth jazz artists, Mindi Abair and Peter White. My list could go on and on, but enough about me. This residency in Las Vegas takes place at the Bakkt Theatre inside of Planet Hollywood. There were 2500 people in attendance, and most of the women had on Shania boots, hats, tops, you name it! It was a showdown!!! On my way to Lake Tahoe, it was recommended to me to stop by Vina Castellano winery in Auburn, Ca., not only because of their great red wines, but the grounds are beautiful with a large pond and outdoor seating that is more than welcoming. It’s a very charming place and the staff are absolutely delightful! It was great to meet with Lisa Duron, the Wine Tasting Room Manager. She told me that this is a spanish winery, founded by Gabe Mendez 25 years ago. All wines are estate grown. Gabe and his daughter, Teena, are committed to the idea that Mediterranean varietals from Spain, Italy and the South of France will secure the Sierra Foothills and Placer County for the years to come. They received ‘Best of Class’ from the San Francsico Chronicle for their, ‘Tempranillo’ wine. This is Spains #1 wine grape. I sampled it and it is ‘fantastic’!
